M’lore: WHO Consultant Dr Pruthvish visits Yenepoya University

Mangalore, 24 Jun 2014: Professor Dr S Pruthvish, department of community medicine, M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore and International Expert consultant on healthcare waste management, World Health Organization – South East Asia Regional Office (WHO-SEARO) visited Yenepoya University, department of community medicine, here recently.
 
 
Dr Pruthvish worked with WHO- SEARO in Indonesia at Banda Aceh for over 6 months after the Tsunami hit the region in 2005-2006. He helped design, develop and conduct training programs across the province. Dr Pruthvish also advanced mechanisms to develop IEM materials on healthcare waste management and means to procure the equipments needed.  At Yenepoya University, Dr Pruthvish interacted with postgraduates in the department of community medicine and sensitized them on the issue of health care waste management and issues pertaining to disability as he has authored a book on it. He shared his experience working with WHO-WPRO (Western Pacific Regional Office) as consultant assigned to work in Papua New Guinea in capacity to support the government to develop National Health Care waste management plan.

 


 
 
His rich experience working with WHO which is the World authority in health, a United Nation Organization, inspired the Post graduates and also the undergraduate students who got an opportunity to speak to him.
 
 
An International NGO called WASTE, which is based in The Netherlands, powered Dr Pruthvish to conduct a project in Malleswaram area of Bangalore which was field tested and now available for further reference.  This also helps build bridges which were then extended for projects like these into Sri Lanka, Colombo in particular.
 
 
Professor Dr Abhay Nirgude, head of department of community medicine, Professor Dr R P Pai, Dr Akshay and other faculties interacted and brainstormed on public health issues with Dr Pruthvish and noted brawny points for implementation and development in Mangalore area.
