Mumbai: Postmen of Ville Parle (E) plea MLA Krishna for Bags & Shoes

Mumbai, 19 Jun 2014: The postmen of 3 post offices of suburban Vile Parle (East) on Thursday June 19 morning met MLA Krishna Hegde and informed that in spite of several follow ups they have not received bags to carry their postal delivery.
The delivery of above 500 envelopes a day including shares, electricity bills, mobile bills and bank statements has to be delivered by each of the 150 postmen every day.
The postmen have not received uniforms since 2012 and the women have not received saris. The women are working in civil clothes.
Out of 150 postmen who worked outdoors 20 are women. Since last 3 years the staff has not even got chappals and the men get one shirt and one pant a year. The budget is Rs 195 only.
Due to friction the bag and uniform tear. The postmen have to wear same uniform every day.
Even the bag costing Rs 500 are torn and have not been replaced since 4 years. The budget sanctioned for this basic amenities are lapsed.
MLA Hegde has written to previous Chief Post Master General Mishra to renovate the Post and Telegraph Colony in Sahar, here.
‘The Chief Post Master General confirmed that Rs 2cr is sanctioned, but the residents are yet to see any money or any improvement,’ said MLA Hegde.
There are numerous snakes in the Colony and one of the boys residing there has caught over 100 live snakes.
‘Postmen who work in sun and rain don’t even have umbrellas,’ added MLA Hegde.
MLA Hegde is trying to make provisions for these 150 postmen and women, so that they can have new bags and umbrellas for the rains.
