M’lore: Minister Roshan instructs Director to increase domestic flights

Mangalore, 26 May 2014: The state information, basic infrastructure and Haj minister Roshan Baig here on Monday May 26, instructed the city airport director to explore the scope with private airline operators in order to increase flights to different locations across the state.
The minister Baig was briefed about the developmental works at city’s airport by the airport director Radhakrishnan. The minister Baig instructed Radhakrishnan as there is huge demand for seats in a few routes including Mangalore – Bangalore.
The minister Baig said that the exit new-road is being laid at city airport at the cost of Rs 11 crore. The state has already released the entire cost for laying 1.1 kilometer road, added minister Baig.
Radhakrishnan said that various development works are underway at a cost of Rs 100 crore at the city airport. Meanwhile, private airlines would take interest to operate flights from Mangalore, if the Oil Majors reduce VAT on aviation fuel in Karnataka, said Radhakrishnan.
Mangalore sub-division officer Dr Prashant said that measures have been taken to acquire the required land for airport requirement.
Haj Bhavan
The minister Baig gathered information on preparations for forthcoming Haj pilgrimage and assured to provide essential assistance.
Karnataka Haj Committee CEO Sheikh Latif said that the locals have been demanding direct flights to Haj pilgrimage from city airport. The plot has been identified to construct Haj Bhavan and the construction of boundary wall is in progress. Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner has written to Kerala state administration to allow Haj pilgrims from Kasargod district to take flights from Mangalroe, said Sheikh Latif.
The district minority welfare officer Sabir Ahmed was present on the occasion.
