New Delhi, May 21, 2014 : Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been invited for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on May 26, a BJP spokesperson said on Wednesday, in a step to embark on a policy of regional engagement.

Nirmala Sitharaman, from the BJP, said all heads of government from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) "have been given invitations to be present at Narendra Modi’s swearing in."

On Monday, stressing on the need for dialogue, Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit said India should not shy away from dealing with "contentious" issues like Jammu and Kashmir which need to be resolved for the two countries to move on. Basit, however, said there can’t be any preconditions for resumption of dialogue.

As he reiterated Nawaz Sharif’s invite to Narendra Modi to visit Pakistan, Basit said the first four-five months of the new government will determine how bilateral ties are headed.

Modi and his ministers will be sworn in on May 26 at 6pm in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The BJP won 282 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sahba election. Along with its allies, it won 336 seats in Parliament.

The election is over; it is time to work. Modi is no longer a BJP candidate inciting anti-Pakistani sentiments of his followers and supporters. In his first act, he has rightly shown them who is the boss and put them in their place: thank you for helping to get elected and now go back to your camps. This is what I had written about in who is afraid of Modi. Saffron arsonists as well as Shiv Sainiks in Maharashtra dare not to equate Modi and Man Mohan Singh, even if both act one and the same way. Ironic? Not all. Time for me to watch do ankhem bara haat...an old Marathi movie remade in Hindi.
