Kuwait: Indian Cultural Society to present Kaifi Aun Main on May 23

Dubai, May 20, 2014 : Pioneer for quality entertainment & producer of regular hit shows, Indian Cultural Society, proudly presents “ KAIFI AUR MAIN On Friday 23 May with legendary JAVED AKHTAR, SHANBANA AZMI accompanied by film & theater director RAMESH TALWAR & Ghazal maestro JASWINDER SINGH.

 

 

Kaifi Aur Main ( IPTA) , which is based on the autobiographical work of the poet, writer, lyricist & freedom fighter Kaifi Azmi’s wife Shaukat Azmi. The play highlights her journey of life & love with her husband Kaifi Azmi.

ICS always tries to bridge cultures and to keep the community happy by bringing together renowned artists on one stage. Their recent presentation was “ Hala Vaisakhi Celebration” which was a huge success and was highly appreciated.

“Kaifi Aur Main”  A concept carried Literature based Ghazal, Geet, Poetry, Fun, story, dialogues with Legendary Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi & Jaswinder Singh. The lead actors share interesting anecdotes from the life of great revolutionary poet Kaifi Azmi, while Jaswinder lends his voice to some of the most sweet, memorable Ghazals and Songs penned by Kaifi Saheb. Envision a long mystic poem with a dash of romance, humor and grief.

This theatrical collage is a compilation of Shaukat’s interaction with Kaifi, from her book “ Yaad Ki Rehguzar”, along with portions from various interviews of Kaifi, which have been strung together by Javed Akhtar & Shabana Azmi and directed by Ramesh Talwar.

A veteran of the Indian Peoples Theatre Association (IPTA), Ramesh Talwar is a senior stage & film actor, television and film director, & co-producer. As a director, his mastery over theatre and films is more than evident. He has directed several IPTA plays including the very successful and evergreen Shatranj Ke Mohre, Tanhai, Doosra Aadmi, Aakhri Sawaal, Apan to Bhai Aise Hain, and Kashmakash. He has created quite a niche for himself, directing generations of filmstars on stage from Jaya Bachan in “Ma Retire Hoti Hai” and Dr Mukta, Shatrughan Sinha in Pati, Patni Aur Main, Zeenat Aman in “Chupke Chupke” to Pooja Bhatt in “Khubsoorat”. He was Chief Assistant Director to Yash Chopra in the major blockbusters, such as Daag, Deewar, Kabhie Kabhie, Kaala Pathar and Trishul. Later he became a director in his own right, with films like Doosra Aadmi, Basera, Duniya, Tera Naam Mera Naam and Saahibaan among others. His directed TV serial was much popular on its time period among them Mashaal, Aarzu, Rangoli & Chitrahar etc.     

Javed Akhtar: The most successful scriptwriters of all time. Legendary Javed Akhtar also known as great Urdu poet & lyricist who has series of hit films as scriptwriter & lyricist like Sholay, Andaz, Seeta Aur Geeta, Zanjeer, Deewar, Kranti, Adhikar, Iman Dharam, Kaala Patthar, Hathi Mere Sathi, Don, Trishul, Mr. India, Shakti, Mashaal, Dostana, Shaan, Sagar, Betaab, Silsila, Tezaab, Arjun, Prem, Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Refugee, Lakshya, Swadesh, Veer Zara etc. A highly respected writer and social commentator Javed Akhtar is admired for his secular, liberal and progressive values. Shabana Azmi: A well known ever green film actress. She is daughter of Urdu progressive poet & lyricist Kaifi Azmi & theatre actress Shaukat Azmi. Shabana has acted in films by virtually all of India’s most famous art-house directors & commercial including Shyam Benegal, Satyajit Ray,  Mrinal Sen, Aparna Sen & others. In addition to acting, Azmi is a social & women’s rights activist, a Goodwill Ambassador of the (UNPFA), and a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament.

 

Her popular films are Ankur, Shatranj Ke khiladi, Amar Akbar Anthony, Fakira, Parvarish, Arth, Sparsh,  Mandi, The Bengali Night, Masoom,  Earth, Thodi Si Bewafai, Makdee, Paar, Godmother, Tahzeeb, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, The Reluctant Fundamentalist etc. Now in “Kaifi Aur Main”.

Jaswinder Singh:  is a “Young Ghazal Maestro” from India with a soft & silky mesmerizing voice. He has awarded by Indian Music Academy in presence of former president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He is son & student of legendry composer Kuldip Singh.

 

He is most promising & sensational ghazal singer of this generation. Saregama- HMV launched his Music album “Ishq Nahin Asaan”. Earlier he has released “Yours Truly” & “Dilkash” by Tips Music. Jaswinder has also performed in "Ghalibnaama" a conceptual show based on the prose and poetry of Mirza Ghalib. He is specializes in Sufi and foot tapping Hindi & Punjabi songs. Jaswinder Singh sang for the legend A R Rahman in film Ranjhaana.
