Byndoor: Woman kills daughter-in-law with scissors

Byndoor, 19 May 2014: A trivial issue led to a woman stabbing her daughter-in-law to death with cloth-cutting scissors at Muggibettu in Shiroor on Monday.

 

The deceased is Nagaratna (29), wife of Manjunath Acharya. The accused is Chandu alias Chandravathi Acharya (55).

 

The deceased, daughter of Ramachandra Acharya of Ambagilu, was given in marriage to Manjunath nine years back. The couple have three children. Manjunath, a carpenter by profession, works at Sirsi and used to visit home once a month.

 

The incident which triggered the incident occurred on Sunday. Nagaratna had gone to her parents’ home to make arrangements for her sister’s wedding, which was on May 29. When she came back on Sunday to take saris, she found out that her mother-in-law had worn a sari belonging to her and this resulted in an altercation. The fight continued on Monday too and in a fit of rage, Chandravathi stabbed the Nagaratna with the cloth-cutting scissors, being used by the victim for tailoring.

 

Since neighbours knew that both used to fight, they did not bother about the screams but got alarmed when blood-soaked Nagaratna came out running from inside the house. She succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Byndoor police have arrested the accused.
