Mangalore, May 5, 2014 : Dakshina Kannada district Committee of CPI (M) began indefinite protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s officer here on Monday May 5 morning, against the evil practice of ‘Panktibeda’ the practice of separate-dining-facility for Brahmins at Sri Krishna mutt in Udupi.
It was related to recent incident wherein an assistant Professor Vanita Shetty who was seated in the dining facility at the ground floor which was restricted to only Brahmin diners, asked to go to first floor that is opened to others. The humiliated Vanita walked-off without having the food. The practice goes on unabated for long, despite the secularists urging the state administration to discontinue the practice, but so far no firm decision has been done in this regard.
The office bearers of district CPI (M) and activists were present.
