Beltangady: 142 Couples wedded during Mass Wedding Programme at Dharmsthala

Beltangady, 3 May 2014: One-hundred-forty-two couples tied wedding-knot during 43rd annual mass wedding programme held at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala here on Friday May 2 at 6-45pm.
The state minister K Abayachandra Jain in his message to the newly-wedded couple advised them to lead married life with dignity and be well cultured in the society.
The former assembly speaker B L Shankar said that mass wedding programmes are helpful in fostering social equality and communal bonding as it promotes inter-caste/religious marriages. It would bring revolutionary changes in the society, as the recent weddings have become a stage for extravagant celebrations.
Shankar advised the religious centers to guide the society and inspire to foster communal harmony.
The former minister Govind Karajola and MLA K Vasant Bangera conveyed best wishes to the newly-wedded couples.
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade in his presidential address said that the sanctity of marriages is threatened owing to blindly following western culture. The marital problems are on the rise among the modern couples. The marriage is not for mere pleasure, it’s for fulfillment of life, said Dr Heggade. He also said that mass weddings inspire one to lead simple life. He thanked Kolkata-based Birla Foundation for contributing for mass wedding programme every here and also generous donors who contributed for saris, jewellery and financial help.

Highlights
· Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project Mysore division staff Mahesh and Mangala who wedding during the mass wedding programme were given special status.
· Eleven inter-caste couples wedded on the occasion.
· Fifty-eight daily wager couples, 27 couples employed in private service, 19 couple of driver’s profession, 15 couples of farm hands and others were wedded here.
· Each couple took an oath of loving and caring, trusting each other, to lead meaningful life without ill habits.
· The bridegroom and bride was presented with traditional wedding dress, jewellery etc.
· The newly-wedded couple were offered food at Annapoorna dining hall of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala and left to their native villages.
