Unique of Akashvani Mangalore - B V Karanth’s stage songs

Mangalore, 26 Feb 2014: ‘Stage songs are having rich heritage which contain both classical and folk elements and through a new blend of music it enriched the Kannada theatre’ said Dr Vasanthkumar Perla, assistant director and programme head of All India Radio (AIR), Mangalore.

Dr Perla was speaking at the valedictory programme of ‘B V Karantha’s Ranga Geethegalu’ to an invited audience programme organized by AIR, Mangalore at Raveendra Kala Bhavan, University College, here on Tuesday February 25.

 B V Karantha’s Ranga Geethegalu was a week-long workshop and a unique-one in nature.  The traditional theatre songs are fading away these days.  AIR, Mangalore, took special interest in documentation and to broadcast these songs by involving talented stage artistes.  Nagabharana, famous stage artiste and movie director, Kalpana Naganath, stage artiste and serial actor and Jeevanram Sullia, another stage director, participated as resource persons and trained the participants in the week-long workshop.

‘B V Karanth was an exponent in the field of Kannada theatre.  His contribution was unique not only for Kannada theatre, but for the Indian theatre as well,’ said Dr Perla.

 

 

Kalpana Naganath said, ‘theatre songs of B V Karanth shows the life and culture of one generation and the intrinsic, minute details of folk instruments are also shown in his music.  The specialty of his music is that it involves the entire mass.

Jeevanram Sullia, the resource person also spoke on this occasion.  The certificate were presented to the participants.

Dr Perla welcomed the gathering.  Dr Sharabendra Swamy, programme executive introduced the guests and briefed on the programme.  Shyamprasad, programme executive and Manjula Subrahmanya, artiste, compered the programme.  Florine Roche, programme executive proposed vote of thanks.

After the stage programme, the trained stage artistes presented, ‘Ranga Geethegalu’ (theatre songs) programme.  Chandrahas Ullal and Manjula Subramahmanya compered the same.

A large gathering witnessed the programme and appreciated AIR, Mangalore for its unique effort.
