M’lore: Minister Ramanath Rai advises A M R Power to Assess Threat of Flooding before Heighten

Mangalore, 28 Aug 2013: The state forests, environment and Dakshina Kannada (DK) district-in-charge minister Ramanat Rai advised the project officers of A M R Power, in order to monitor the water levels especially during the monsoon, while increasing the height of existing dam that has been built across Netravati River at Samboor, in Bantwal taluk, in order avoid flooding in the farmlands and households that lies in the vicinity, advised minister Ramanath.
The minister Ramanath was speaking during the meeting of peoples representatives affected by A M R Power project, ZP members, the villages elders, A M R Power deputy general manager Praveen, project advisor Sankappa Shetty, at Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday August 28.
The minister Ramanath urged the officers of AMR Power to consider the issue seriously because any recklessness on their part will lead to destruction of crop and take away the livelihood of peasants, urged minister Ramanath.
He also said that as per the directives of High Court and based on the decisions taken during the meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner on May 30, pump sets will be distributed to 18 farmers, financial assistance will be provided to repair masjids in Ajilamogaru and Perla, in Bantwal taluk which were damaged by floods recently, the drinking water to the residents of Narikombu village will be provided under Bahu Grama Drinking Water Project, while Rs 30 lac that was originally proposed to pay to A M R Power to supply drinking water to the village will be utilized for other developmental works, said minister Ramanath.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) N Prakash said that A M R Power authorities are supposed to hand over a report of all activities that are taken for the welfare of local peasants. A Committee will be formed of Tahsildar, PWD executive engineer, the officers of plantation department, agriculture department, water supply and drainage Board at the leadership of deputy sub-division officer, in order to assess the real situation in the periphery of A M R Power project, said DC Prakash.
The zilla panchayat members Mamata Gatti and Prakaschandra Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
