ICYM ‘Yuva Samagam 2023’ of Udupi Deanery held in Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 12 Jun 2023: The ICYM ‘Yuva Samagam 2023’ of the Udupi Deanery was held in St. Lawrence PU College Hall, Moodubelle  hosted by the ICYM Unit of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle on Sunday, 11 June 2023 from 8.30 am to 4.30pm. Registration of members commenced at 8.30 am followed by breakfast. 

 

The programme started at 9.30 am with a brief stage programme. Gladson Alva-President of  the ICYM Unit of Moodubelle escorted the guests to the dais. The dignitaries on the dais included: were Fr. George Thomas D’Souza (Parish Priest), Fr. Pradeep Cardoza (Asst. Parish Priest), Fr. Naresh (VC of Lucknow Diocese) , Fr. Ronson D’Souza(Director ICYM Udupi Deanary),Joseph Ulric D’Souza (Resource person), Pritish D’Sa (Vice Presdient of PPC),Shanthi Alva  (Animator ICYM Moodubelle) , Ashley D’Souza (President ICYM Udupi Diocese), Shiny Alva (Secretary ICYM Udupi Diocese), Glanish Monteiro (President ICYM Udupi Deanery), Jane Siona D’Souza(Secretary ICYM Udupi Deanery.  Charles Quadros (Secretary PPC) and    Mrs. Gracy Rebello-Convener of the 20 Commissions were also present.

 

Gladson Alva welcomed the gathering followed by wyona lobo giving flowers to everyone on stage. Divine  blessings were  invoked with a prayer song sung by ICYM Members followed by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurating the ‘Yuva Samagam 2023’.

 

In his presidential address, Fr. George D’Souza appreciated the good work done by the ICYM.

 

The Resource Person Joseph Ulric D’Souza was introduced  by  Shiny Alva. In his keynote address, Joseph Ulric D’Souza mainly spoke about career and the four pillars of IKIGAI (The Japanese secret to  live a long and happy life)  - Passion , Mission, Profession and Vocation.   

The first session was followed by Holy Mass offered by Fr. Ronson D’Souza. ICYM Udupi Unit members conducted the choir. 

 

After the Holy Mass lots were taken for the competition that was to be conducted in the afternoon. After the lots was taken participants were given a lunch break.

 

The judges for the event were Fr. Ronson Pinto - Asst Parish Priest of Shirva Parish, Fr. Lenson Lobo-Capuchin  Administrator - Nirmala English  Medium School and Dr. Roshan Fernandes - Lecturer Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte.

 

Six teams participated in the competition based on the theme of Konkani Culture.

 

Following the competition the following teams  were declared as winners: 1st Prize - ICYM Kuntalnagar; 2nd Prize - ICYM Perampalli and 3rd Prize - ICYM Moodubelle.

 

For the valedictory ceremony the guests present on the dais were Fr. George Thomas D’Souza (Parish Priest),  Fr. Ronson D’Souza(Director ICYM Udupi Deanary), Fr. Stevan Fernandes(Director ICYM ICYM Udupi Diocese),Fr Wilson Dsouza (Parish Priest Kuntalnagar Parish),Judges -  Fr. Ronson Pinto  , Fr. Lenson Lobo , Dr. Roshan Fernandes ,   Ashley D’Souza (President ICYM Udupi Diocese), Shiny Alva (Secretary ICYM Udupi Diocese), Glanish Monteiro (President ICYM Udupi Deanery), Jane Siona D’Souza(Secretary ICYM Udupi Deanery), Gladson Alva (President ICYM Moodubelle) , Wyona Lobo (Secretary ICYM Moodubelle).

 

Glanish Monteiro welcomed the gathering. Fr. Steven  Fernandes addressed the gathering and Judge Fr. Ronson Pinto shared his experience. 

 

Fr. George D’Souza distributed mementos to judges , presidents of each units and sponsors for the event. Memento was also presented to. Maxim D’Sa for his support to the ICYM Unit,  Moodubelle during the past year.

 

Prizes were announced by Fr Ronson D’Souza and distributed by Fr. Steven Fernandes.

 

Jane Siona Dsouza Secretary of ICYM Udupi Deanery proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Rosly Carol Quadros and Ceyona D’Souza.

Happy to read about the Yuva Samagam 2023 held at Belle church. Events like this are very essential for the overall growth of our youths. But sad to see the number of attendees as shown in the pictures. Particularly the strength of Moodubelle ICYM unit is saddening. Looks like Belle unit is having hardly 15 - 20 youth in ICYM unit, whereas the entire parish will have more than 200 to 250 youngsters. More youth needs to be joined to the ICYM movement as it helps in the overall growth and particularly in leadership qualities which will be very essential in today s competitive world. In every area, we can see that the Belle youth are far far behind compared to other parishes. Would like to know why our youngsters are not interested in ICYM activities. Why the parish leaders youth animators can not take serious interest with ward wise action plan
