Mangaluru: Yenepoya University organizes cancer sensitization program for teachers

Mangaluru, 09 Dec 2016: Yenepoya University, in collaboration with Dakshina Kannada district public instructions department conducted daylong cancer awareness training programme for the high school teachers of Mangalore city north and south blocks at Yenepoya University campus, here on December 7.
During the training, sessions were held on what is cancer, symptoms, risk factors, types, prevention and treatment. Dr M Vijayakumar, vice-chancellor of Yenepoya University facilitated interactive session with teachers and clarified their doubts.
Walter H D’Mello, deputy director of public instructions (administration) Dakshina Kannada district was the chief guest for the valedictory programme. He lauded the efforts of Yenepoya University in organizing cancer awareness campaign in an intensive manner and hoped that through teachers the message will be spread to students, parents and the community at large. He announced his support to the University in extending awareness programme to other taluks also.
Surmi Farhaad Yenepoya who was present as the guest of honor honored the guests with mementoes.
Dr M Vijayakumar presided the programme. In his presidential address, Dr Vijayakumar highlighted the genesis, purpose, strategy and target audience of Cancer awareness outreach programme of Yenepoya University. He emphasized the pivotal role of teachers in spreading cancer awareness among students, parents and the community at large.
Usman G, education co-ordinator of Block Education Office (BEO) Mangalore city, Dr Ibrahim Naganur, consultant, preventive oncology of Yen Onco Center, Dr Abdul Rahiman, former vice chancellor of Kannur and Calicut University, Dr Asha P Shetty, principal of Yenepoya Nursing College were present on the dais.
Dr Shreekumar Menon, registrar of Yenepoya University welcomed the gathering. Dr Mohammed Guthigar, co-ordinator of CAOP for teachers, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr Pracheth of community medicine department compered the programme.
