Social activist, former Deputy Mayor Judith Mascarenhas passes away

Mangaluru, 10 Jan 2017: Social activist and former Deputy Mayor, Mangaluru City Corporation, Judith Rita Mascarenhas passed away on Monday, 9th January at the age of 85; she had recently suffered a stroke and was bedridden since then.

 

 

 

Judith was born on December 22, 1931 to Aloysius and Magdalene Mascarenhas. After completing her studies, she took up teaching. She later took voluntary retirement and dedicated herself to full-time social service.

 

She founded ‘Preethi Neethi Trust,’ an NGO for the needy and destitute in 1991. She also held the position of the Deputy Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation for two terms.

 

Public can pay their last respects at the residence in Mallikatta on Wednesday between 1 pm to 2.30 pm. The funeral will be held at Bendoor cemetery, Mangaluru.
