Expectant mom tries to book seat for kid

Bangalore, 12 Agust 2011: "You are most welcome to register your son anytime after his birth, on our waiting list." Thus reads the note on the website of an international school in the city. 

 

At Sarala Birla Academy, Bannerghatta, too, this is the norm. Once the registration is done, the school immediately sends the tentative dates of the test and centres available to the parents for the year required. Along with this, other details of the school, including the brochure, is sent to them. The craze to find a school for the child has reached a level where parents have started booking seats in schools much in advance, as the admission season for international schools sets in. The need has prompted schools in the city to provide facilities where they can assure a seat for the children for an admission that is to take place only in the distant future, but on one condition: the child needs to clear the entrance exam for the academic year concerned. When the admission season starts for the academic year concerned, the school will invariably follow up with the parents.

 

 

"There are a substantial number of parents who register early. It’s important for many of them as they are either from different parts of the country or beyond the boundaries. They start preparing early for the process. They would need to book tickets, take care of their business or other engagements. When we tell them a tentative date, they can plan better," said Santanu Das, principal, Sarala Birla Academy. 

 

The headmaster of Trio World School recollected an instance where a pregnant woman came to the school looking for a seat for her yet-to-be-born child. "She wanted an admission for 2015 for her baby she was carrying. She took a tour of the school and left with an application form. When we asked for a name or sex, she was clueless," said Paul F Meekin, headmaster.
