Sister, brother raped by neighbour in Goa

Panaji, 10 October 2010: Agasaim police on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother at Bambolim. The accused and the victims are neighbours.

 

In her complaint, the siblings’ mother said that her two minor children were allegedly sexually abused by their neighbour Deviklal Kurmi from Assam. Kurmi works as a security guard at the Goa Medical College and hospital. Police have registered a rape case. The accused was arrested on Saturday.

 

Police said that investigations have revealed that the accused had been sexually abusing the minor boy for almost 20 days and the minor girl for last 6 days. The matter came to light when the minor girl complained to her mother on Saturday morning and the victims’ parents decided to lodge a police complaint.

 

"Kurmi was sharing a room with his colleague in Bambolim. When his colleague went to work, he would call the two minor children to his room with some pretext or the other and sexually abuse them. Later, he would scare them and warn them not to tell anyone that he was abusing them, or else ghosts would come and kill them," said police sources.

 

"The girl developed severe pain in her genitalia on Friday after she was abused by the accused but due to fear, she didn’t complain to anyone. However, the accused abused her again on Saturday morning and the pain became unbearable for her, following which she related the whole sequence of events to her mother,"said sources.

 

"Acting on a complaint filed by the victims’ mother, Agasaim police have registered a case under Sections 354, 376 and 377 of IPC and Section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act. The accused has been arrested by a police team led by PI Vishwesh Karpe," said DySP Deu Banavlikar.
