New Delhi, 22 May 2011: Tata group chairman, Ratan Tata slammed Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Amabani for living in a million dollar home in south Mumbai.
Tata said the Ambani scion should try and make a difference to those around him. The comment is likely to make Mamata Banerjee think she has more in common with Ratan Tata than she’d like to admit.
The Tata Group chief has taken the dig at Ambani’s wealth in an interview to London’s newspaper The Times. He said he was surprised and saddened by the fact that Ambani chose to live in an opulent billion dollar home in South Mumbai.
This after he was asked about the Ambani’s 27-storeyed Altamount Road residence. While Mukesh Ambani is ranked ninth on the Forbes List of Billionaires, Ratan Tata failed to find a mention.
To the Times he said, "It makes me wonder why someone would do that. The person who lives in there should be concerned about what he sees around him and ask can he make a difference. If he is not, then it is sad because India needs people to allocate some of their enormous wealth to finding ways to mitigate the hardship that people have."
Later on Tata Sons released a statement saying that there have been words, individuals and statements that have not been mentioned by Mr Tata during the course of the interactions which are being attributed to him.

Totally agree. There should be a group of wealthy Indians who should support people with ideas and develop their skills in business. Young blood should be encouraged and not throw wealth on show off. India can be no 1 in the world wit it s wealth of knowledge. Explore it, develop it, and encourage to expand it. |
