Mangalore: Bishop shares Christmas joy with the needy

Mangalore, 23 Dec 2012: Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza the Bishop of Mangalore, in his Christmas message had called on the Christians and people of good will to share Christmas joy with the less privileged. As a first step he said the diocese would distribute Rs 10 lakhs to 50 economically backward students who are pursuing higher studies and Christmas gifts(clothing) worth Rs 5 lakhs to 1000 people. The first programme of distribution of these gifts was held on 23-12-2012 at Bishop’s house.
Twenty economically backward students pursuing higher studies were given Rs three lakhs and 100 needy people from and around Mangalore were given Christmas gifts. Cake and snacks were also distributed to the people. The rest of the gifts will be distributed from 26th to 30th December at different places like Belthangady, Puttur, Moodbidri, Kasargod, Udupi and CODP. Fr William Menezes the PRO of the diocese and Fr Onil D’Soouza the director of CODP were present on the occasion.
