Mangaluru: Dredger arrives at Old Port to clear shipping channel in 2 months

Mangaluru, 23 Nov 2016: The dredger arrived from Mumbai to dredge the bay of Old Port, here on Tuesday, November 22.
The accumulated sand at the bay caused several boat mishaps whilst arriving at Old Port. Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo took the initiative in bringing the dredger to free the shipping channels of accumulated sand in 90 days @ Rs 99.50 lac. MLA Lobo expressed hope that the dredging will be completed in 2 months for smooth sailing of boats and trawlers. The Old Port was not navigable owing the heap of sand on shipping channel since 10 years.
Mangaluru south Congress president Vishwasdas, KSRTC director T K Sudhir, corproator Abdul Latif, Congress leaders Ramanand Poojary, Aspam Bengre, Asif bengre, Sadiq Bengre, Anwar P S, Ashraf Kudroli, Sharif Ullal, Ummar Farouq, Moideen Bilal, B J M Sali, Jaffer Sharif, port and fisheries officials were present on the occasion.
