Mangalore, 25 Jul 2014: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organized Konkani teachers training workshop at Nalanda School auditorium, here on Wednesday July 23.
The Academy president Roy Castelino inaugurated the training workshop here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Castelino said, ‘In order to strengthen Konkani language, it is being taught in the schools. Konkani teachers are helping in the mission of teaching Konkani. Academy has been pursuing the causes of beginning Konkani classes in degree colleges, setting up chair in Konkani at Mangalore University, setting up Konkani Clubs, releasing 2 Konkani books every month, mobile Konkani bazaar. We need your support in this regard. Konkani competitions for the children are being planned during Konkani Manyata Divas during August 2014. All the students had to partake in these competitions,’ said Castelino.
Karnataka state Konkani minority education institutions Association secretary Dr K Mohan Pai was the chief guest of the occasion.
Pai said, ‘We have established institutions and taught everything except Konkani. We need everything of this world, but don’t need mother tongue Konkani. It should not happen. Let us teach Konkani to our children,’ said Pai.
The Academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai also spoke on the occasion.
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Stany Alvares proposed vote of thanks. Mangalore north zone education co-ordinator Subraya Pai was present.
Dakshina Kannada district deputy director of public instructions Moses Jayashekar called on more students to opt for Konkani from Class VI to Class X, because they would become future Konkani teachers. The Academy has been striving in this regard.
Poornima Shetty educated the participants on 80:20 effective SSLC evaluations during the workshop.
Konkani poet Melvyn Rodrigues offered info on poetry in textbooks, while Steven Quadros offered info on prose and Fr Valerian Fernandes on grammar.
