Srirangapattana, 25 Jul 2014: Bishop Dr Thomas A Vazhapilli of Mysore blessed the newly-built ‘Shubhajali’ community hall at St John the Baptish parish, Palahalli village, near here on Thursday July 24. Shubhanjali was built with the contributions of parishioners and outstation donors to commemorate one-hundred-fiftieth anniversaries.
St John the Baptist church in Palahalli village, near here is one of the ancient churches in Karnataka. It was built in the year 1859 by French missionaries. There are 55 Catholic families in this parish.
St John the Baptist parish priest Fr George Martiz inaugurated ‘Shubhanjali’ on the occasion.
Over 1,500 faithful, 15 priests and nuns attended this colorful function.
The parishioners honored Fr Martis by draping shawl and Mysore attire.
Melwin and Eliza Pereira from Koramangala, Bangalore, who had mobilized funds and supported this project were also honored during the programme.
Fr Martiz thanked all the people who contributed towards this cause.
