Bangalore: Jul 8, 2014 : Canadian International School hosted their unique event – ‘Recycled Regatta’ at its campus, on the penultimate day of school. The Recycled Regatta is a school-wide challenge wherein students design and construct floatation devices made entirely out of recycled materials capable of holding 2 students who had to man and sail/float the unit across the length of the swimming pool.
Although regattas are typically amateur competitions, it was a formally structured event, with comprehensive rules describing the schedule, specifications and procedures of the event. The event was designed to promote team building and create awareness for recycling and reusing materials.
Students are required to use innovative thinking and problem solving skills to turn garbage into a boat capable of holding the students. Everyone anticipated the competition to see whose boat would float and who could pilot it the fastest through the race course. Everyone had such a fun time, especially the pilots. Even though a few got drenched, they all had a whale of a time. It was great to watch them cheer house their teams, said one of the faculty, Ms. Veena Kumar.
It was a day of team work, designing, exploring, creativity and just plain fun. It was an exciting educational event designed to bring awareness to the amount of waste we produce every day, said one of the students, Anusha Vallepally.
