Udupi, 11 Jun 2014: The latest in the series of actions of empowering the laity, Bishop Gerald Lobo of Udupi diocese appointed Sr Pramitha Cutinha of the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation as his secretary.
She was administered oath of office and secrecy at a simple ceremony held in the chapel of Bishop’s House, here on Monday June 9.
It is customary that Bishops appoint priests as secretaries. But Bishop Gerald, as usual, has chosen to unconventional path in appointing a nun as secretary. In the hierarchy of Catholic Church, religious sisters come under the category of laities.
Sr Pramitha hails from Bola in the vicinity of Our Lady of Mercy parish, Panir, in Mangalore diocese.
