Mangalore, 5 May 2014 : In recognition of International Nurses Week the nursing service department of Father Muller Charitable Institutions launched Nurses Week Celebration - 2014 with the theme, ‘Nurses: A Force For Change - A Vital Resource For Health’ at Asha Kiran grounds, here on Monday May 5. The celebration will conclude on Monday May 12. The week is celebrated around the world to commemorate the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, culminating on May 12.
Father Muller Medical College Hospital medical superintendent Dr Uday Kumar was the chief guest of the occasion.
Father Muller Charitable Institutions director Fr Patrick Rodrigues presided the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Uday kumar K said, ‘Nurses are the greatest force. They play a vital role in the patient care and safety. Nurses bring about a change in the health care,’ said Dr Uday Kumar.
Dr Uday congratulated the nurses of Father Muller Medical College Hospital for their dedication, commitment and selfless service towards the mankind. He further said that Father Muller Medical College Hospital is known for the quality nursing care.
Fr Patrick in his presidential address said, ‘Nurses have a positive impact on the community. He added, ‘When I think of nurses 2 things come to my mind - admiration and jealousy. Admiration is for their hard work, commitment and responsibility they take up. Its their love, care and service which is a major impact on the lives of the patient. The quantum of love and affection bestowed on the nurses by the patient is so much which is what that makes me jealous,’ said Fr Patrick.
Fr Patrick encouraged the nurses to continue the good work and wished them success in life.
During this weeklong celebration various activities will be organized which will include competitions and variety entertainment. This is to reflect on the compassion, commitment and hard-work, of our nurses.
The valedictory function will be held on Monday May 12.
The mayor Mahabala Marla will be the chief guest felicitated veteran nurse Sr Aurora K Joseph on the occasion.
