Mumbai, 24 Mar 2014: It’s the vacationing season, wherein natives of undivided Dakshina Kannada district are travelling from metro by Konkan Railway (KR) to their hometowns, who had to be alert about their precious belongings because of rampant pick-pocketing.
Mahabala B Suvarna family who has arrived in Mangalore by KR – Matsyaganda Express train from Lokmanya Tilak (LT) Terminus, Mumbai, a few days ago lost their precious gold jewellery while travelling in the train.
Mahabala family travelled in the abovementioned train, a few days ago and were about to alight at Mulky, at about 5.00am. They placed their baggage near the door, while other youth also placed their baggage close by. All the passengers alighted at the station, while Mahabala family reached their hometown Siddakatte, in Bantwal taluk. Meanwhile, they had a shock when they opened the bag, there was no jewellery worth Rs 3.5 lac. Mahabla rushed to Mulky police station and tried to lodge the complaint, but the authorities refused to register his complaint. When his efforts failed, Mahabala family returned Mumbai after attending a wedding in their family empty handed.
Cautions to passengers
The passengers travelling in trains or buses either with family or single are advised to keep close watch on their belongings. Furthermore, if you are carrying huge money, take supporting papers because of model code of conduct in force for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The election officers are likely to take action on such cases. Don’t carry cartons while travelling in inter-city buses, because you would be stranded at the deserted check post at Nippani, near Belgaum that lies on the boundary between Karnataka and Maharashtra states in the middle of the night, because the bus driver and conductor demand money in the guise of paying to check post personnel.
