Sohar, 04 Mar 2014: The 4th edition of the Mangalore Friends Corporate Cup organized by Mangalore Friends Sohar, the biggest and the most looked forward Corporate Cricket tournament in Sohar, was conducted on the 17th and 18th of January 2014 in Sohar, Sultanate of Oman.
The tournament had 22 corporate companies participating in the tournament. An inter-school cricket tournament was also organized for the second time along with the corporate tournament in which Indian School, Pakistan School, Bangladesh School and Al Batinah International School participated.
The tournament was sponsored by Sohar Aluminum, Al Nahdha, Sohar Beach Hotel, Red Bull and Shamal Plastic Industries LLC and supported by Mangalore Balaga Sohar.
The interschool tournament was a huge success. In the semifinals Indian School B team defeated Pakistan School A team and in the other semi final, Indian School A team beat Al Batinah International School. In the finals Indian School A team defeated Indian School B team to lift the trophy for the second consecutive year.
In the Corporate Cup, Al Nahdha A successfully defended their crown by defeating Al Nahdha B in the finals. Al Nahdha A reached the finals by defeating L&T MFY B in the semifinals. Al Nahdha B entered the finals by defeating L&T MFY A.
A grand prize distribution ceremony followed, the chief guests comprised of representatives of the sponsor companies and other prominent members of the expat community in Sohar.
The Best Batsman was Deepak Shetty from Shamal Plastic, Best Bowler was Prasanna Shetty of L&T MFY B team and the man of the tournament was Rizwan from Al Nahdha B Team.
The two day event was a huge success as the crowds flocked to witness the nail baiting matches. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and cold drinks were provided by Mangalore Friends Sohar to all participants as well as visitors. Red Bull drove their model car and supplied Red Bull to all players and supporters.
Mangalore Friends Sohar as always will conduct the event even bigger next year as 2015 will be the 5th year of the tournament.
