Mangalore, 3 Mar 2014: The centenary year celebrations of Rosario Cathedral began at the Cathedral premises here on Sunday March 2. Although the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church is 447 years old, it was named as a cathedral during 1915.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza released a book of proposed projects at Rosario Cathedra, while parish priest Fr J B Crasta briefed on the book.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr J B Crasta said that the book has all the information on future projects of the parish that is entrusted to key parishioners to execute them.
Bishop Dr Aloysius also released ’Way of the Cross,’ a Konkani book authored by parishioner Marcel D’Souza on the same occasion.
Bishop Dr Aloysius in his presidential address lauded the efforts of Fr J B Crasta towards the welfare and development of the parish and its parish community.
Bishop Dr Aloysius said, ‘Church is the center of parish community. It’s the beginning of Christianity. Each parishioner had to strive for the betterment of parish and the society at large,’ said Bishop Dr Aloysius.
Sr Linet, Sr Hilda Albuquerque, Fr Amith Rodrigues, Fr Alwyn Serrao, Fr Rocky Fernandes, corporator Abdul Latif, Fr Jayaprakash, Fr Joseph Martis and others were present.
The programme began with the prayer song sung by the parish choir and a welcome dance by the parish children.
The parishioner Dolphy D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The parishioner John D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. Ida Furtado compered the programme.
