Moodubelle, 18 September 2010: Speaking at the inauguration of Pernankila Shri Mahaganapati Mahalingeshwara Mahila Yakshagana Mandali at Hiriyadka Ganesha Kala Mandira on last Sunday, Hiriyadka Gopala Rao, famous maddale player said that if women participate in the Yakshagana folk art actively, the art that has been the stronghold of men in the coastal region will have additional flavor and it will flourish.
Speaking at this occasion, Dr. Devdas Kamath of Hiriyadka Kamath Nursing Home who presided over this programme said that in this age of Television and cable media the Yakshagana folk culture and art is not receiving the much needed support and encouragement. Young people are not keen to learn this kind of folk art as heir attraction is towards filmi dance and TV shows. It is heartening to know that young women have taken lead in organizing their own Yakshagana Mandali.
This programme was attended by Malpe Raghavendra-National Best Teacher Award winner and Yakshagana artist, Ramchandra Rao of Ganesh Kalamandira, Mandjunath Kulal Sasthan-teacher of Yakshagana, Arun Kumar, Prema and Sujatha Jayaram Bhat.
