Mangalore, Feb 22, 2014 : The surgeons of Father Muller Medical College Hospital, here on Friday February 21, performed an unique surgery on twenty-nine-year-old engineer from Goa, who met with a motor bike accident which incapacitated his upper limb due the avulsion of the brachial plexus at the neck (brachial plexus is a group of nerves which makes the upper limb move and also carries sensation. The nerve once avulsed for the spine cannot be attached back. It becomes difficult for the patient to restore. Two months back he under went a surgery without any result.

This challenge was accepted by the medical team of Father Muller Medical College Hospital surgeons Dr Latheesh Latif, unit chief of the hand and micro surgery, department of orthopedics and his team Dr Kishan Shetty, Dr Hilda and their team from the department of anesthesia and surgical nursing staff, performed 8 hours of prolonged surgery where transferring the functioning nerves around the neck and chest to power the right upper limb. The unique and complicated surgery is expected to restore the useful function and sensation to the hand. There is a rapid recovery on the part of the patient.
