Mangalore, Feb 6, 2014 : The mental agility of students is essential for them to achieve significant in life, said Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo.
MLA Lobo was speaking during the annual day celebration of Government Women’s College, Balmatta, here on Wednesday February 5.
Mumbai University retired head of department of Kannada Professor Taltaje Vasant Kumar was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Vasant Kumar said that outwardly appearance is not important as every human being is blessed with several qualities that make one distinct from others. Mere following of western culture is unjustified as Indian culture has survived the onslaught of conquerors since several centuries. Kannada folklore is a treasure trove, when explored it can enlighten ones mind effectively, said Professor Vasant Kumar.
Government Women’s College principal Professor Subbappa Kaikamba, the students’ council convener Savita, students’ welfare officer Mohit, students’ union leader Hannath and other office bearers were present at the dais.
The students presented one-and-a-half-hour Yakshagana mythological episode ‘Mahishamardini’ for the first time in the college. The veteran Yakshagana artiste Krishnappa Kotekar directed the show.
