Mangalore, 16 Dec 2013: The first Kittal Yuva Puraskar winner, Carmelite Bro Jossy Siddakatte’s third book titled, ‘U Turn’ was released at St Joseph’s Monastery, Infant Jesus Shrine, here on Saturday December 14.
The City Police Commissioner’s office AAO Hilda Goveas released the book, ‘U Turn’ here on Saturday evening.
The book is a collection of inspiring thoughts authored by Bro Jossy which featured as a regular column of Carmelites Konkani monthly magazine ‘Naman Ballok Jesu’, with Fr Steven Pereira as its editor-in-chief.
It’s the third book authored by Bro Jossy, first being, ‘Pausa Dhonu’ and ‘Moran Sandlelim Pakam.’
Speaking on the occasion Wilma Bantwal, a young writer in Konkani and recipient of Kittall Yuva Puraskar 2013 said, ‘Through U Turn, Jossy has paved a way for a new genre of writing in Konkani literature. U Turn has neither, poetry nor prose. It’s a new mode of writing which exists in Kannada but not in Konkani. It’s a well meditated prose and an extended poetry,’ said Wilma. She further said, ‘All these years, I perceived Jossy as a poet. But I now realized him as a well-seasoned philosopher and a mature dramatist,’ said Wilma.
Corporation Bank C G Pinto, Rev. Carmelite Provincial Fr Archibald Gonslaves were present on the occasion.
Kudro, Konkani play by playwright Jossy Siddakatte was staged after the stage programme.
Kudro, has a rural background that conveys a tragedy where one man chooses to stand up to defend his land and village against the destructive plans of the government and is left alone to fend for himself by his neighbors, friends and even his own son who literally loses his mind because of greed.
