Udupi, 04 Dec 2013: Rotary Club of Shankerpura on the occasion of their District Governor’s official visit on 02 December 2013 honoured Mrs. Alice Rodrigues a Nurse by profession for her dedicated service to the society. In reply, she thanked Rotary Shankerpura for recognising her service and appreciated members of Rotary Shankerpura for their selfless humanitarian service. She specially mentioned the ongoing projects ‘The Monthly Free Psychiatric Camps’ being conducted on every first Sunday of the month for the last ten year where she was also given opportunity to help psychiatric patients is remarkable.
Mrs. Alice Rodrigues was born on 22 of January to Mr & Mrs John and Dulcine Lasrado at Kota near Kundapura, She completed her schooling at Viveka Girl High School & P.U College, Kota and joined Mumbai’s prestigious King Edward Memorial Hospital to pursue her studies in Nursing. After passing Diploma’s in Nursing and Midwifery, she continued serving at the Hospital as staff nurse till 1982.
In 1982, after marriage to Mr. Jerome Rodrigues, an Airline professional from Shankerpura she moved to Muscat to join her husband and worked there for several years as Nurse. For better education for her children she returned to India for good and continued her profession through voluntary social service, by providing free medical assistance and help to the aged, bedridden and economically weaker sections of people in the vicinity of Shankerpura and nearby area.
Apart from her social service activities, she is an active member of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh Central Executive Committee and also member of other local committees.
