Moodubelle, 06 September 2010: The Lions Club of Moodubelle, Prasad Netralaya Udupi, Netrajyothi Charitable Trust, Udupi, Jana Jagruti Samithi, Moodubelle, District Health and Family Welfare Department and Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Village Development Programme-Belle-Kattingeri –Padubelle jointly organised a free Eye Camp sponsored by the Canara Bank, Moodubelle on Sunday, 5th September 2010 between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm in the Lions Sevabhavan, Moodubellle.
The inaugural function of the Free Eye Camp was held at 9.30 presided over by Ln Cyril D’Souza. The guests included Dr. Krishna Prasad, Managing Director of Prasad Netralaya, Dr. Nityananda Nayak, Senior Eye Specialist of Prasad Netralaya, Mrs. Dayasheela, Planning officer of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Village Development Programme, Udupi Taluk, Niranajan Acharya-Senior Officer of the Canara Bank, Moodubelle, Devdas Hebbar-Lions Regional Advisor and President of Jana Jagruti Vedike, Udupi Taluk and Ln Henry Fernandes, Secretary of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. Commodore Jerome Castelino, the founder president of the Lions Club of Moodubelle and Prashant, Supervisor of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Village Development Programme, Kaup Zone were also present. The programme was conducted by Ganesh, supervisor of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Village Development Programme, Moodubelle.
Devdas Hebbar in his welcome address pointed out the purpose of conducting the Eye Camp and said that the response to such free eye camps has been quite good. The Free Eye Camp was formally inaugurated by Mrs. Dayasheela by lighting the lamp. In her message, Mrs. Dayasheela said that health is one of the important gifts of God and eye forms one of the important organs of the body whose care is very essential. She further said that a number of socially conscious organisations have come forward to organise health camps such as Free Eye Camp that is being organised in Moodubelle. She greatly appreciated the charitable work that is being done by Dr. Krishna Prasad and his team by arranging Free Eye Camps, identifying the problems and giving proper treatment including free eye operations at his hospital.
Dr. Krishna Prasad in his address said that he was coming for the third time to Moodubelle to organise the Eye Camp under the auspices of the Lions Club and expressed his happiness at the good response from the people to the Eye Camp. He said that in modern times even small children develop eye problems and if they are not treated in time, eventually they may suffer the loss of sight. Henry Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
Around 195 people got their eyes checked and 32 were recommended operation to remove cataract etc. which will be done free of charge in the Prasad Netralaya Udupi on 9th September 2010. The hospital itself will make arrangements for transporting the patients to the hospital and bringing them back in the evening after the operation.
