Mangalore, 20 Nov 2013: The birth anniversary of Kanakadasa, a devout psalmist of visionary and social reformer Purandaradasa’s times during Vijayanagar dynastic reign was celebrated at the joint aegis of Dakshina Kannada district administration and Kurubara Sangh at Town Hall, here on Wednesday November 20 morning.
Earlier, a procession with tableau of Kanakadasa was held from Sharavu temple, K S Rao Road till Town Hall.
The state fisheries and youth service minister Abayachandra Jain after inaugurating the programme said that Kanaka made no distinction of caste, creed and faith, gender while praising and worshiping the Lord throughout his lifetime. His works are time memorial.
The minister Jain further said that the state administration will soon introduce social security programmes to uplift the living standards of shepherd community.
Kanakadasa composed hundreds of devotional songs in praise and worshipping Lord Adikeshava in his time. The state announced holiday in honor of Kanakadasa for his great virtues.
The zilla panchayat CEO Tulsi Maddineni, Mangalore north MLA Moideen Bava, Kannada and culture department assistant director Chandrahas Rai, Kurubara Sangh president Ravikumar, VTU chancellor K E Prakash, and others were present on the occasion.
