Mangalore, 14 Nov 2013: Milagres Pre-University College celebrated Children’s Day in an extravagant manner. The day is celebrated in honour of the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was born on the 14th of November, 1889. As he was a man who would win every child’s heart, and a man who loved children to a great extent, his birthday is remarked to be dedicated to children.
The programme began with the Milagres school band marching towards the stage escorting the dignitaries to the dais. The members escorted to the stage were: Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza (Milagres Correspondent) Rev. Fr. F.X. Gomes (Administrator of the Institution) Mr. John Pais (Principal) Mr. Avith Barboza (Vice-Principal) and Mrs. Agnes Colaco (Headmistress), Vishal A (Student Council Leader), Favian D’Souza (SPL) and Gagan Punacha (Primary SPL).

The administrator then gave a speech on the significance of the day. He said that November 14th is observed as Children’s day as Chacha Nehru or Chachaji Nehru, fondly called by this name, saw The Future of India in Children! He also stated that he was considered as the Architect of India. At the end of his speech he wished all the children very well in their lives and said that he believed that the Milagres students are going to be great citizens of the country doing things that will uplift India to a greater extent. When he ended his speech, he was cheered by the students in such a manner that claps rained down on the Milagres grounds and shouts of “JAI HIND” echoed the entire place!
Many games were conducted, and the children were given ice cream and a few other goodies. The last part of the event was taken by DJ music and children dancing to every tune.
