Bangalore, 30 August 2010: Students displayed their love for their country and appreciation for jawans at Reflections 2010, an interactive programme, organised by Vasantharatna Foundation for Art in association with Flag of Honour at Army Public School here on Saturday.
They expressed their love and support for the country through words and colours (painting competition for students of classes I to IV and (poster/collage competition for classes V to VIII) and extempore (for classes IX to XII) that were part of the one-day event. The topic for painting and poster/collage competition was “What does patriotism mean to you?”, while extempore was impromptu.
Sneha Vinod of St. John’s School won the first prize in the painting competition. S. Kaushik of Clarence High School bagged the second prize, while Ridah Zaman of the Delhi Public School (Bangalore North) won the third prize. In the poster/collage competition, Priyanka D.J. of Sindhi High School, Hebbal, won the first prize. She was given an ipod and a certificate. Sandesh Jadhav of the Rashtriya Military School, Bangalore, and Angeline of St. John’s School won the second and third prizes, respectively. In the extempore competition, Ankan Dutta and Sanjit Ganguly of Bishop Cotton Boys’ High School bagged the first and second prizes, respectively. The third prize was won by Sneha Miriyam of the Clarence High School.
Brig. A.K. Pradhan, Commander, HQ K and K Sub-Area, gave away the prizes. He urged the students to be prepared to serve their country.
Subhashini Vasanth, founder trustee, Vasantharatna Foundation for Art, said that the foundation had been striving to raise awareness about the defence services and the sacrifices of soldiers and their families. The foundation’s endeavour had always been to involve the school community in its activities as it would empower children to be proactive about national security. She stressed the need for raising awareness about issues concerning the nation.
