Udupi, 27 Oct 2013: The self-help-groups (SHGs) are not meant for loans, instead to come out of financial hardships, said Mysore division regional director Srihari.
Srihari was speaking after inaugurating Pragatibandu SHGs interactive meet that was organized by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) at Kuruhina Shetty community building, Rangolihalla, here on Saturday October 26.
The integral programmes for societal growth are embarked on with the purpose of addressing the social issues as that of refurbishing temples and worship centers. It was focusing on rural development, to improve the economic situation of small and tiny farmers, to address the grievances of poor and laborers engaged in unorganized sector; all these with secularist features. The additional emphasis will be laid for address the grievances of poor, said Srihari.
Of late, the concept of SHGs is understood differently as per situations. Its key objective is not to borrow loans, instead ease the economic hardships. None of them should pursue the idea of SHGs are meant for granting loans, added Srihari.
The veteran social activist Mahantesh, Kannada Sahitya Parishat secretary Vijay Kumar, gram panchayat former president Prema, Nekhara Kuruhina Shetty community building president Puttaswamy, Congress chief secretary Ranjit Simhan, Sarojamma, project officer Leelavati, service representative Hemalata and others were present on the occasion.
