Mumbai, 16 Oct 2013: Akshaya, Kannada monthly bulletin published by the metro-based Billawar Association has indeed become popular, as it has forged the bond of social and literary sphere. We have grown along with the bulletin which has brought happiness, said Akshaya, monthly bulletin honorary editor M B Kukyan.
Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Billawa Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here on Tuesday October 15, Kukyan briefed on conferring of Guru Narayan Literary Award – 2013 during the silver jubilee celebration of Akshaya, monthly bulletin.
Guru Narayan Literary Award – 2013 will be conferred on Mangalore-based veteran litterateur Vinayaka Ganapati Nayak (V Ga Nayak) during the silver jubilee celebrations of Akshaya, monthly bulletin, scheduled to be held at Billawa Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here on Sunday October 20.
Dr Narahalli Balasubramanya, Dr B A Sanadi, Dr Vikram Vishaji, Dr Arjun Golasangi, Dr B Janardhan Bhat, Dr G N Upadhya, Dr Gurulingappa Dabale, Dr Mahalingeshwar, Professor Tukaram Poojary and others will be the chief guests of the occasion.
The Award hither to limited to litterateurs in Mumbai is extended to undivided Dakshina Kannada district with effect from this year. The award comprises Rs 25,000 cash, citation letter and memento, said Akshaya, Kannada monthly bulletin executive editor Nityanand D Kotian.
The editor Dr Eshwar Alevoor said that the first issue was published by printing in a offset press located at Dhobitalao, here during 1988. It took nearly 30 days to bring out the first issue, while at the latest technology now, its published in just 10 days, said Dr Eshwar.
Dr Eshwar further said that none of the office bearers of Billawar Association involved in the affairs of publishing Akshaya, monthly bulletin. The editorial Committee enjoyed freedom to in its affairs throughout so far, said Dr Eshwar.
Akshaya, monthly bulletin is published under the executive editor Nityanand D Kotian by fostering community bonds. It’s clear that freedom is essential for a newspaper to grow. In spite it’s promoted by Billawa community, it has maintained secular stand all through. It has circulation of over 8,000 copies in the nation including Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka states. It has about 1 lac readership which is committed to the ideologies of Guru Narayan, added Dr Eshwar.
M B Kukyan said that Billawa community has expressed a need to have a daily, while others expressed their views to have a weekly. Although, there are plans to make it a fortnightly, a serious planning in this regard is essential, said M B Kukyan.
Billawar Association honorary president Jaya C Suvarna along with president L V Amin will preside the silver jubilee celebration of Akshaya, monthly bulletin. A special issue titled Akka will be released on the same occasion, added Kukyan.
Dr Eshwar Alevoor, sub-editor Harish Hejamady, Mahesh Karkal, Dharmesh Salian, B D Suvarna, Satish N Bangera, Jayaram G Nayak, Nisha Rajesh Bangera, Santosh K Poojary, Kusuma Chandra Poojary and others were present on the occasion.
