Mangalore, 7 Oct 2013: Mangalore diocesan dean Fr J B Crasta symbolically inaugurated the Jeevan Jyothi Camps - 2013camp at Valencia, here on Monday October 7.
The Jeevan Jyothi Camps for the year 2013 for Class X students of Episcopal city denary will be held at the parishes of Valencia, Bejai and Bendore from October 7 to October 9.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr J B Crasta recalled the purpose of starting the Jeevan Jyothi Camps in the diocese of Mangalore. He said that though there are 52 Sundays to impart catechism, but in practice children use to get only 16-20 catechism classes on Sundays in the Church. Rest all other Sundays are occupied for various activities of the parish and some for major holidays. He said that the main purpose of the camp is for the formation Faith of young students. What we are not able to get during Sundays, is made good during these Camps. The Camp must help the students to grow strong in faith and values of Christian life.
The topics will be dealt during the camps - Who am I, Christian Faith, Family Values and Vocation, Disparity of cult, My role in the Church, Listening is Word of God, Stress management etc.
Besides these topics there is lot of group games, singing, quiz and fun is involved.
Fr Gratian at Valencia, Fr Sunil at Bejai, Fr Sunil George at Bendur is the main co-ordinators of the camps. Besides deanery priests, nuns and laity are also involved in conducting the camp.
At Valencia Fr Gratian welcomed the gathering and Fr Amith Rodrigues proposed vote of thanks.
Nearly 350 students are participating in all 3 camps organized by the Episcopal city deanery.
