Moodbidri, 20 August 2010: The funeral of late Fr. Dolphy Monteiro, parish priest of Paladka who had passed away on 18 August 2010 due to an accident was held on Friday, 20 August 2010 at 10 am at Paladka Chruch amidst thousands of mourners. The funeral Mass was offered by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. More than 200 priests from different parishes of the mangalore diocese and 300 nuns belonging to different congregations were present for the funeral along with more than 3000 people from Paladka and other neighbouring parishes. Shri Abhachandra Jain, MLA was also present to pay condolence.
Fr. Dolphy was bron in Modankap, Bantwal on 17 June 1965. He ws one of the eight children of his parents. Two of his sisters are nuns. Fr. Dolphy was ordained a priest on 9 May 1992. He Had been a dynamic priest. Some time back he had served as a priest in USA for two years. He had taken the charge of the Paladka Parish as the parish priest recently on 30 May 2010.
The life of this promising young priest ended abruptly on the fateful day of 18 August 2010 at 9.30 am when on his way to to medication on his bike he met with a fatal accident due to the impact of which he fell into the well near the main road just outside the road leading from the church.
The loss of Fr. Dolphy Monteiro is being felt not only by his family and the parishioners of Paladka but the entire diocese of Mangalore.
