Mumbai: Konkani Mandal, Chakala organizes Celebration of Monti Fest

Mumbai, 22 Sep 2013: Konkani Mandal, Chakala celebrated the feast of Nativity of Mary at Holy Family parish, Andheri (East) here on Sunday September 15 morning.  It was being organized for the successive fifth year.

 

Fr Leo Suvares SJ and Fr Charles Vaz SVD blessed the new paddy-sheaves at the grotto at Holy Family parish premises on Sunday morning.

 

The little children showered flowers in front of the grotto to honor Infant Mary.

 

Fr Charles Vaz in his homily explained the contemporary tradition of celebrating feast of Nativity of Mary or Monti Fest among the Mangalorean Konkan families, during the festal Eucharistic Celebration.

 

The Konkani choir rendered the melodious music on the occasion.

 

The cultural and entertainment programme was held after the festal Holy Mass.

 

Konkani Mandal member Anthony D’Souza briefed on the significance of Monti Fest to Mangalorean Konkans.

 

The inmates of Divya Jyoti Convent presented welcome dance and honored Infant Mary by offering flowers.

 

 

 

 Konkani choir group presented a song, Konkani Bhas Amchin, besides singers Rubina Furtado, Alwyn Fernandes, Felix Pasanna and Joyce Lasrado sang Konkani hit songs.

 

The comedians Valerian Lobo, Lancy Sequeira and group enthralled the audiences with mimicry and jokes.

 

The children who were trained by Lancy, Velida, Hazel, Deepika and Priyanka staged a dance show.

 

The sponsors were honored during the programme.

 

Fr Leo Suvares prayed for graces of food that was prepared by Akshay Caterers.

 

Ronald Fernandes, John DSouza, Eugene Lobo and others were instrumental in organizing the programme.

 

Joel D’Almeida and Daina Cardoza compered the programme.
