Udupi, 20 August 2010: On the occasion of the World Photography Day on Thursday, 19 August 2010, around 50 members of the South Kanara Photographers’ Association (Udupi Zone) assembled at Kunjibettu Udupi at 10.30 am and proceeded to the ‘Home of Hope’ (Vishwasada Mane), a shelter for destitute at Shankerpura and donated the food articles such as vegetables, rice and fruits and also clothes which they had collected for the inmates of the shelter.
The initiative for this humanitarian service was taken by Shridhar Shettigar of Ideal Studio, Moodubelle who has been elected as the new President of the SKPA-Udupi Zone and Dhananjay Poojary of Ankita Studio, Udyavar who has been elected as the new Secretary. On reaching the ‘Home of Hope’, the members of the SKPA-Udupi Zone were welcomed by Pastor John Sunil D’Souza and gratefully accepted various food items and clothes donated by the association members. He also introduced the members to the inmates of the shelter with whom the members of the association interacted.
The programme at the ‘Home of Hope’ was attended by Vasudeo Rao, Vice President of SKPA, Mangalore, Udupi Zone Vice Presidents- Anish Shettigar and Ratna Kumar Shetty, Honorary President of Udupi Zone-Raghava Padmashali, former Presidents-Jayakara Suvarna, B. Krishna, Prasanna Kumar and Shivrama.
Speaking at the short programme at the ‘Home of Hope’, Vasudeo Rao said that photographers should have a broad heart and should try to help the poorest of the poor in the society. Pastor John Sunil D’Souza appreciated the humanitarian gesture of the members of the SKPA-Udupi Zone and pointed out that in the absence of any government help, the hundreds of inmates of the shelter depend on the generosity of individuals and groups who periodically donate money and other essential items so that he and the volunteers can provide the inmates with decent life.
