Mumbai, 09 Sep 2013: Konkani Manyata Divas was celebrated by St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road on 08.09.2013 at Community Hall of St. Joseph’s Church. Programme started at 6.30 pm with a welcome dance. Mr. John Crasta, President of the Association welcomed the gathering. Fr. Dominic Vas (Spiritual Director of the association and Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Church), Fr. Ivan (Assistant Parish Priest), Mr. David D’Silva (founder president of the Association & Maan Monis), Sr. Cecelia (Superior, Holy Cross Sisters, Mira Road) Mr. Gilbert Baptist (Malaika Group), Mr. Robert Noronha (Noronha Estate Agency), Mr. V. D’Silva, Kanjurmarg (Konkani Writer) inaugurated the function by a unique Mangalorean traditional way i.e. by pouring the “Bhaat” in “Kallshi”.
Two minutes silence was observed for all those Konkani writers, actors and all worked for Konkani & left us for Heavenly abode. Founder President of the Association, Mr. David D’Silva was felicitated on the occasion with “Maan Patr” (read by Joy Paladka), Flowers, Fruits & Shawl for his contribution towards Konkani language in Mira Road.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Dominic Vas stressed that Konkani culture should be inculcated in our life, in our home and Society. He requested all Konkani people to speak Konkani when two Konkani people meet together.
Merit holders (children of Association members) in SSC and HSC were honored for their meritorious achievement in the respective Examinations in flying colours.
Two hours of Entertainment Programme was conducted by the Members of the association and their children who entertained the crowd with jokes, dance and songs. During the programme small skits ‘Botlerache Jevann’ (written and directed by John Crasta), ‘Baba Pandit’ (written and directed by Prasann Niddodi) and ‘Bapa Tanka Bogshi’ (Directed by Joy Paladka) were enacted. Konkani crowd enjoyed the occasion with Songs & Dances from the Prize winning Participants of the Talent Competition of Konkani Bhasha Mandal –Maharashtra last month.
The second part of the Program ,‘Novem Jevnche’ started with blessing of ‘Novem’ by Fr. Dominic Vaz. Senior member of the association, Mr. Francis Mathias invited all the gathered by traditional way of ‘Panpod Udak’. Novem was distributed to all followed by “Novem Jevann” on the Banan Leaves. Vegitarian ‘Jevann; was consisted of 7 types of vegetable delicacies. “Lavdate” was sung by the members of St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association after the meal. Mr. Arun Noronha, Secretary of St. Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road offered vote of thanks.
