Udupi, 13 August 2010: Minister for Municipal Administration Balachandra Jarakiholi said that under the Rs 600 Crore Nagarotthana Yojana, announced by the Chief Minister, every civic body on an average would get a grant of Rs 6-7 crores this year. He was speaking after inaugurating two day state level convention of heads of Civic Bodies, organized as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), here on Thursday, August 12.
He said, “Prepare a plan now itself for the effective implementation of the scheme. Please do not go for equal distribution of funds to all the wards. Instead, select for example 8-10 wards and take up a comprehensive development work there. Take up works in the remaining wards in rotation. That will surely boost the quality of work and satisfaction of the beneficiaries and the government”.
Jarakiholi called upon the heads of civic bodies to work in co-ordination with the bureaucrats, for the effective implementation of government schemes. He called upon the elected representatives to restrict politics only to electioneering and work apolitically and according to the spirit of secularism.
Speaking after releasing a brochure brought out to mark the 75th anniversary of Udupi CMC, Home Minister Dr VS Acharya stressed the need for bench marking of civic amenities according to the modern needs. “That may be round the clock drinking water supply, good roads, street lights. For that, apart from sound financial support we need to improve our level administrative competency.
‘Work is best for competitive price’ is the thumb rule of the government. A best work shall always be in accordance with the latest technology and design. Likewise, automated revision of house and property tax shall also be given priority”, Dr Acharya said, adding, “I hope that the deliberations of the Civic Bodies convention in Udupi will become an preamble to the bench marking of civic amenities”.
