Moodubelle: Environment Protection Awareness Programme organised in Lions Seva Bhavan

Moodubelle, 08 August 2010:  An Environment Protection Awareness Programme and vanamahotsava jointly organised by Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivraddhi Yojane, Kaup Zone, Social Forestry Department of Udupi District and Lions Club of Moodubelle was organised in the Lions Seva Bhavan on Sunday, 8 August 2010 at 10.30 am. The programme was inaugurated by Gerald Fernandes, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat. Cyril D’Souza, president of the Lions Club of Moodubelle presided over the programme. Manjappa, lecturer from A.V. Baliga College, Haradi, Brahmavara was the resource person.  Gunakar, Agricultural Officer, Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivraddhi Yojane, Udupi District, Devdas Hebbar, president of Jana Jagruthi Vedike of Udupi Taluk and Henry Fernandes, Secretary of Lions Club of Moodubelle were guests of honour. Ganesh, social worker of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivraddhi Yojane, Moodubelle compeered the programme. A large number of members of  various self help groups associated with Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivraddhi Yojane from Moodubelle, Padubelle and Kattingeri attended the programme.

Gerald Fernandes along with other dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated the awareness programme by lighting the lamp. Gerald Fernandes, Henry Fernandes, Devdas Hebbar, Cyril D’Souza and Gunakar in their brief speeches explained the importance of the environment and how it can be protected. The resource person, Manjappa in his speech explained the different components of the environment and gradually they are getting polluted. He explained the audience the need to not only plant but also take care of trees so as to protect the environment.

During the programme four persons who had lost the earning member from the family were given  cheques amounting ten thousand rupees each from the Central Government Relief Fund. Few persons from the audience were formally handed over the saplings of various trees to be planted in their land. At the end of the programme Prashant, the in charge  of the Kaup Zone of the Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivraddhi Yojane proposed the vote of thanks.

Following the awareness programme in the Lions Seva Bhavan hall, Commodore Jerome Castelino, Gerald Fernandes, Cyril D’Souza and Henry Fernandes observed ‘vanamahotsava’ by planting few  saplings of trees by the side of the road  in front of the Lions Seva Bhavan.  Saplings of different trees such as teak, silver oak, cashew, etc were distributed to the people who had attended the environmental awareness programme.
