Mangalore, 02 August 2013: St Aloysius College (Autonomous) witnessed the grand inauguration of the Student Council 2013-14 here, on Thursday August 1.
The elected student representatives took the oath of office from the Student President Ponnanna N T who further outlined the plan for the year. The itinerary included campaigns for anti-smoking, road safety and a move to make the area from Light House Hill (LHH) up to Jyoti roundabout, a no-honk zone. He further added that a move would be made to employ Bhojpuri wall art in the campus for aesthetic value and beautification.
The chief guest, M P Noronha, advocate and advisor to various institutions, stressed on knowledge, skills and attitude as forming the triangle to success. ‘Happiness is a state of mind. Leadership is often like walking on thorns, but if we develop our state of mind we can achieve great success, said Noronha.
The Principal, Fr Sweebert D’Silva praised the theme adopted by the Student Council for the academic year. The theme, ‘Harnessing youth power for social transformation’ upholds the vision and ideal of the college, which is men and women for others. This shows that the council will work not only for the student community but also for the public,’ added Fr Sweebert. He further cautioned that leaders should not take decisions based on the majority but choices made, should be just and right.
Also present, were Student Council Director John D’Silva, Assistant Director Manuel Tauro, Joint Secretary Rashmi Peres, Speaker Hadley D’Souza and Deputy Speaker Keith Netto.
