Mangalore, 07 August 2010: The growth and development of any university can be ensured only by the combined growth of administration, teaching and publication bodies, opined Dr Amrutha Someshwara, noted writer, after releasing the university-level Kannada text books and lecture series for the present degree courses.
The programme was organized under joint auspices of Mangalore University, Prasaranga Mangalore University and Vikasa association of Kannada lecturers of degree colleges, in Ravindra Kalabhavana auditorium at University College Mangalore on Friday. Dr Someshwara said, the text books match up to the high standards both in terms of their design and content.
Further stressing the need to publish the PhD and M Phil theses in book format, he said there are many researched works which haven’t seen the light of the day. It would be appreciable if those unpublished treasure of knowledge are looked into, scanned through and published with necessary corrections, he observed.
Dr Satyanarayana Mallipatna, executive editor of Kannada text books, shared his experience of working for the text books. He said the text books shouldn’t just be a collection of poems and prose, but rather it should trigger curiosity among the students. “Students should be able to explain and write about their understanding of the book,” he added.
Dr Shripathi Kalluraya, director Prasaranga welcomed the gathering. Dr K Abhayakumar President Kannada Research Center Mangalore University, Prof T C Shivashankar Murthy Vice Chancellor Mangalore University, Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, Registrar of Mangalore University were present.
