Moodubelle, 30 Jul 2013: During a function to honour the meritorious students of St. Lawrence Composite PU College held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the College Hall, 215 students received scholarships collectively amounting to Rs. 2.17 lakhs. The scholarship amount included contributions from Late Padmavati Vittla Rao and late Prof. Bhavani Rao Memorial Fund (Rs.85,000), Bellevision (UAE)(Rs.50,000), Interest from the Needy Students’ Fund (Rs.57,000), Interest From Midday Meal Fund(Rs.13,320), Sponsorship from PTA(Rs.10,000).
Speaking on this occasion Belle Ravindranath Rao, the chief guest of the function who is the main donor of the scholarship said that for those students who have determination to study there are many ways to get help and encouragement. Among these the scholarship is one of the chief incentives. He further said that success in education comes to those students who have a definite aim and work hard to achieve such aim.
In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions said that it is indeed a moment of great pride that continuously for the fourth time a considerably large amount of scholarship is being distributed to quite a number of meritorious students that too in a rural educational institution.
Scholarship amounting to Rs.10,000, Rs.8,000 and Rs.6000 was awarded to those students who secured first, second and third places among the students of SSLC and PUC respectively. This amount would help these students to pursue their higher education. Remaining amount was distributed to other meritorious and needy students.
Jane Lobo, Bhavya Salian, Sujata Suvarna and Larsen D’Souza expressed their feelings during this occasion.
The scholarship distribution function was attend by Rajendra Shetty-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza-member of Zilla Panchayat, Chitpadi Sarvottam Rao-former General Manager of the Corporation bank, A.K. Alva-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Raphael D’Souza-Secretary of Bellevision (UAE), Joseph Martis-PTA President and B. Sadananda Rao-retired teacher of Church Aided Higher Primary School.
Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College welcomed the guests and the gathering; senior teacerh Mrs. Hilda Aranha proposed the vote of thanks and Devaraya Shanbhag, lecturer of PU College compeered the programme.
