Karkal, 20 Jul 2013: A local councilor has constructed a house for the family of mentally ill in Kalikamba, here, in a humanitarian gesture.
Ningoji Rao and Girija couple has 3 sons and 3 daughters. All the daughters are already settled, while 3 sons are mentally ill. The eldest among them is Ganesh who married to Bhavani, other sons Jayaprakash and Yogish are bachelors’ languishing at home. The three sons became mentally ill after the demise of their parents. They were uncared by the neighbours, when a local councilor Prakash Rao comes to their rescue in up lifting the situation.
Prakash Rao led the humanitarian task of building 850 square feet tiled-house with the help of local youth, entrepreneurs and general public. It is inclusive of 4 rooms, a kitchen, bathroom and a toilet. It has been provided with electricity connection. It has been christened as ‘Seva – Jyoti’ because the local youth contributed voluntary service and it has cost Rs 1.50 lac. Ningoji Rao was managing his family by working as bicycle repairer and as memorial – the window of this new house has been made in the shape of cycle crank.
MLA V Sunil Kumar handed over the house-key of ‘Seva – Jyoti’ in the presence of advocate M K Vijayakumar, Chandrashekar Hegde, Guruprasad Kamat, Dinesh Nayak and others.
