Mangalore 04 August 2010: St. Agnes Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research was inaugurated by Sr M Linette A C, Provincial Superior, Karnataka Province, at Mercara Hill Road, Bendore, Mangalore on Tuesday, 3rd August. Prior to the inauguration Rev Fr Dennis Moras, Vicar General, offered prayers and blessed the Research Center.
Speaking to mediapersons Dr Sr Marie Prem D’Souza A C, Principal, St Agnes College, said the project was initiated in the year 2007. “We felt the need for setting up of higher education facilities for girls in Mangalore city. Instead of going to far away places, they can complete the course here itself. It is another avenue to grow and is an asset to the society” she said.
Sr. Marie Evelyn, Co-ordinator, PG Studies and Research, informed that the courses offered at the Centre would include MA in English, M Sc in Psychology, M Sc in Clinical Psychology and M Sc in Chemistry. Plans of introducing MSW and MBA courses in the future are also in the pipeline, she said.
Sr. Evelyn also said that the institution has collaborated with Centre for Development and Advanced Computing, Trivandrum, in order to impart knowledge and create awareness regarding mental retardation, which would include training to teachers and parents of mentally retarded children through lectures from experts.
Edusat will beam lectures to various centres like Chetana and Saanidhya at Mangalore. These Centres will be interactive centres and other centres will be in Udupi and Mangalore. Kerala and Trivandrum would be the other receiving centres. The CDAC has inspected the premises and has responded in the affirmative, she revealed. Sr. Maria Jyothi, Founder Principal of St Agnes Special School, was instrumental in getting this project done, she added.
