Moodubelle, 4 August 2010: The general body meeting of the Milk Producers’ Cooperative Society was held on Tuesday, 3 August 2010 at 10 am in the premises of the Belle Grama Panchayat office. Dr. H.B. Shetty, president of the society presided over the meeting and also welcomed the members.
Besides the formal proceedings, the general body meeting in a humanitarian gesture undertook to bear the expenses of three months provisions to the family of late Monthu Augustine Lobo’s family. Monthu Augustine Lobo had died due to drowning last year. He had been a member of the Milk Producers’ Society right from its inception twenty years ago and he had been a regular supplier of milk to the society from the beginning. Besides, the society also would try to get the benefit of the Janashree Group Insurance of Rs. 75,000/- to late Monthu Augustine Lobo’s family meant for the members of the society for accidental death. Mrs. Jacintha Aranha, president of the Belle Grama Panchayat gave away school unfirom to the children of late Monthu Augustine Lobo on behalf of the society.
Dr. Manohar-the veterinary medical advisor to the the Federaton of Milk Producers’ Association of the DK-Udupi Districts who attended the meeting as the chief guest advised the members on increasing the production of milk and maintaining its quality. Kum Shruthi, official from the Agricultural Department spoke on the method of growing low cost and better fodder for the cows which would help in producing more milk. She emphasised on using less cattle feed and more grass in order to produce better quality milk. Mrs. Jacintha Aranha in her message said that she is pleased with the presence of a large number of women members and said that realising the benefits from the society she also felt like having cows and supplying milk to the society. She assured the members that she will fully implement the government facilities meant for the Milk Producers’ Cooperative Society.
Dr. H.B. Shetty in his presidential address said that when the Moodubelle Milk Producers’ Cooperative Society had started twenty years ago the supply of milk was barely 28 litres per day. Gradually the people realised the value of the cooperative movement and presently there are above 200 members of the society who supply collectively on an average 600 litres of milk per day.
Twenty members of the society who have been supplying highest amount of milk were felicitated during the meeting. Among them the three highest milk suppliers to the society are: Mrs. Leela Pojjarthy, Mrs. Padmavathi Poojarthy and Harish Shetty who had supplied milk worth above Rs.70,000 last year.
Ravindra A H-secretary of the society conducted the meeting and Monthu Castelino-member of the executive committee proposed the vote of thanks.
